pompieri (pomp-ee-air-ee) m. Italian noun meaning firefighters, firemen.
Neapolitan-style pizza about 12" in diameter, with charred edges,
some sparse toppings, served whole & super delicious
You know the old joke, April showers bring May flowers. What do May flowers bring? Pilgrims.  Well, around here those April showers bring flowers for Mother’s Day and graduation weekend. This month is our last big hurrah before the summer break. Twelve years ago, the summer break was a killer for restaurants. Durham got real quiet. A decade later it's a lot more lively between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Our frozen slushie machine has been fired up for the summer and we get super creative with frozen non-alcohol and alcohol laden frozen drinks. I just love the fresh squeezed fruit juices and creative cocktails we create to pair with Neapolitan pizza. Rosé wine season is also starting up.  Now picture this, a freshly baked thin crust pizza with our hand stretched mozzarella and a glass of Italian rosé wine sitting under our patio umbrellas watching the Durham skyline and folks walking around the city. It’s heaven. Come join us, we are saving a seat for you.

Pompieri Pizza

We’re a casual Neapolitan pizza restaurant with a fine-dining approach to the food. We make just about everything from scratch. We use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible and as seasonally as possible. Our pizza is handmade and wood-fired, created around a core of flavors. We change the pizzas from time to time and with the seasons. We’re ready to take you on a culinary journey and wow you with the most simple of flavors to the more complex. Adventurous or not, we have a pizza for you.
  • We make everything we possibly can in house.
  • We offer counter style service and a family friendly experience with a children's play area.
  • We support the community which supports us.
  • We create a work environment where employees are satisfied with their job.
  • We support farmers in our community using 100% pasture-raised meats and other locally sourced ingredients.

What Our Critics Are Saying

"A perfect 10."

“Pizza should arrive as if by dumbwaiter from the pits of hell. It should be charred, blistered, gnarled and smoky. It should not merely be hot, but seem racked--tortured—by heat.” - David A. Ross INDY Weekly
